There was more school pride in my nephew's school in TexasWalking Cooper's school grounds, the sense of school pride was evident. The school mascot was on display; there were banners throughout the school, and lots of school events were being promoted. There are no school mascots, no banners, few school events, and, to be honest, a lot less school spirit. In 2021, my son's school made the state soccer championships, and I went to offer support. Researchers say they have found potentially unlimited ways to break the safety guardrails on major AI-powered chatbots from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. The researchers found they could use jailbreaks they'd developed for open-source systems to target mainstream and closed AI systems. This is something that raises questions about the way AI systems are moderated, as well as the safety of releasing powerful open-source language models to the public.

Clarence Thomas' membership in the Horatio Alger Association gives it rare access, per the Times. The elite group welcomed Thomas into the fold after his stormy Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Thomas soon became a member of the Horatio Alger Association himself and cherished his ability to speak with students and mentor scholarship recipients. "They really treated him like a brother, like he mattered and, in return, he opened up the Supreme Court," Williams added. Thomas hosts the induction ceremony in the Supreme Court courtroom, where roughly 10 new individuals are welcomed into the elite organization.

TO NAME THE BIGGER LIE: A Memoir in Two Stories, by Sarah VirenIt’s an experience I’m betting most of us have had over the last decade: the creeping feeling that a common truth no longer exists. The writer Sarah Viren became renowned as the victim of a false narrative when, in 2020, she published an article in The New York Times Magazine titled “The Accusations Were Lies. Now Viren has written the strange and wonderful “To Name the Bigger Lie,” a memoir that includes this awful tale. Dr. Whiles (a pseudonym) became more and more unhinged during Viren’s years studying with him — or did he? Perhaps his escalating eccentricity was all in aid of discomfiting his students and forcing them to think more independently, more critically.
