On a recent work trip to New York City, I had dinner with my boss. It was a far cry from what work dinners used to look like when I traveled. My first business trip was a sales conference in San Diego in 2009. For the next 10 years or so, every time I took a business trip, I reveled in all of the late-night activities. Swapping business dinners for lunches still means I get dedicated face time with people, but it also means that I can enjoy a break from parenthood while I'm away.

Read previewPlenty of context is required to understand why Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian are paired in new headlines this week — especially since, to the public's knowledge, they haven't interacted in years. It all started when Kardashian released clips of a phone call between Swift and Ye, without Swift's knowledge or permissionTaylor Swift, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian at the 2015 Grammys. Kardashian's footage shows the rapper reading Swift the original line, "I feel like Taylor Swift might owe me sex," which she approvingly described as "obviously very tongue-in-cheek." Swift also liked a BuzzFeed headline that argues, "Everyone Owes Taylor Swift An Apology," among others, including a fan-made "Taylor told the truth mood board." Before Thursday night, if you were not familiar with Oakland University, you were not alone. Tournament, were asking if “that Oakland was in California” or the Michigan suburb of Rochester. “If people didn’t know who the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies were before last night, they surely know now,” Mr. Hendley said. For all but perhaps close followers of the university, a brief introduction may be in order: It was created in 1957 through a donation to establish a satellite location for Michigan State University. At first, the campus was known as Michigan State University-Oakland, but in 1970, Oakland became an independent university.

There was more school pride in my nephew's school in TexasWalking Cooper's school grounds, the sense of school pride was evident. The school mascot was on display; there were banners throughout the school, and lots of school events were being promoted. There are no school mascots, no banners, few school events, and, to be honest, a lot less school spirit. In 2021, my son's school made the state soccer championships, and I went to offer support. I can only imagine what a high school Texas football game would be like.

Then came a much more personal scandal: spy cam footage that showed his wife accepting a $2,200 Dior pouch as a gift. The video of Ms. Kim, which emerged late last year, has caused a rift between Mr. Yoon and one of his most trusted lieutenants. It has roiled his political party — one senior member called on Ms. Kim to apologize and compared her to Marie Antoinette. For nearly two years, Ms. Kim has challenged how this deeply patriarchal society views the role of the presidential spouse. She has talked about Mr. Yoon’s devotion to her, saying in 2022 that he had vowed to cook for her and “kept that promise for the past decade.”

“I’m excited for people to see the show,” Beyoncé says early in “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” based on her recent world tour and seventh studio album. “But I’m really excited for everyone to see the process.”I’ve long wanted to understand her process better, too, especially because she has taken to rarely giving interviews. Instead she has let her art speak for itself, a risky venture when critics do the interpreting without her input. If “Renaissance” was only a film about her beaming audience, dazzling performances and the making of the tour, that would be more than enough. However, it’s clear early on that Beyoncé is not entirely interested in fetishizing her “process” to validate her artistry.

In seeking to extend the pause and hostage releases, Mr. Biden has American interests to consider as well as those of Israel. Mr. Biden hopes an extension of the pause in exchange for the release of more hostages will result in the rest of the Americans being freed. “We’ll continue to remain personally engaged to see that this deal is fully implemented and work to extend the deal as well,” Mr. Biden told reporters. Josh Seal and Bryan MacFarlane reveled in their Wednesday night outings at Schemengees Bar and Grille in Lewiston, playing on a cornhole team that was all their own. For their nine-member team, part of a competitive cornhole league hosted by the bar, the weekly matches were a rare and treasured chance to socialize with other deaf adults. On Wednesday evening, not long after gathering with their team, Mr. Seal and Mr. McFarlane were among those fatally shot by a rampaging gunman. “Some of them were really passionate about the competition, but really, it was just an opportunity for deaf folks to hang out together, apart from the hearing world,” said Mr. Seal’s wife, Elizabeth Seal, who is also deaf and signed through an interpreter. “To be together and communicate with your people in your language — it is priceless.”

A digital-age dirty-trickster who used Twitter posts that looked like Hillary Clinton ads to spread false information before the 2016 presidential election was sentenced on Tuesday to seven months in prison. But they argued that Mr. Mackey committed a crime days before the election when, using the name Ricky Vaughn, he posted images targeting Black and Latino voters that claimed it was possible to vote by text message. The idea, prosecutors said, was to suppress votes for Mrs. Clinton. One of the images showed a Black woman and another one had a message in Spanish. Both included logos resembling the Clinton campaign’s and fine print attributing them to “Hillary for President.”

“The left views leftist ideology as effectively the national religion,” Mr. DeSantis had told the women’s group earlier in the day. “They will tolerate our faith — as long as it doesn’t impact their agenda.” Mr. Trump echoed similar themes — with a strikingly different style that included attacking Mr. DeSantis by nickname and meandering into extraneous topics. He mocked Mr. DeSantis as a political mimic, down to the way the governor sometimes tosses hats into crowds. “He gets low and he flicks his wrist,” Mr. Trump said, suggesting that Mr. DeSantis was copying his routine. “We don’t like these copycats, do we?”And he reveled in his current advantage in the polls, telling the women’s group that Mr. DeSantis “went down like an injured bird out of the sky.

It was days before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and the U.S. government was urging Americans to stay away from Russia. That’s when Bill Richardson boarded a plane to Moscow. The former New Mexico congressman, governor and cabinet member was pursuing his passion: freelance diplomacy with a dangerous foreign government. In a call to Mr. Reed’s parents, an aide to Mr. Richardson said his boss was on a “guerrilla mission,” they would later recall. Either way, the Russian mission was classic Bill Richardson.

Against the odds and amid a backdrop of turmoil, Spain reached the pinnacle in Sydney on Sunday, beating England 1-0 to win the Women’s World Cup for the first time. Spain could even afford to miss a second-half penalty as La Roja became only the second country, after Germany, to win both the men’s and women’s World Cups. But there is some solace for England which, like Spain, was competing in a Women’s World Cup final for the first time, because the team has progressed further than ever before in this competition. !”Spain is the reigning Women's World Cup winner at Under-17, Under-20 and senior level. The first time Albie Cullen said goodbye to the Grateful Dead was on Aug. 9, 1995. A co-worker told Cullen, an attorney for a Boston-area music label, that Jerry Garcia, the Dead’s iconic lead guitarist, had died that day. The Grateful Dead had replaced departed members before, but this was different. With his rootsy tenor, Santa-gone-gray beard and unmistakable plucking, Garcia had defined a touring juggernaut and its vibrant subculture, which had become synonymous with the ’60s. The band’s four surviving original members agreed they would never use the name “Grateful Dead” without Garcia.

TO NAME THE BIGGER LIE: A Memoir in Two Stories, by Sarah VirenIt’s an experience I’m betting most of us have had over the last decade: the creeping feeling that a common truth no longer exists. The writer Sarah Viren became renowned as the victim of a false narrative when, in 2020, she published an article in The New York Times Magazine titled “The Accusations Were Lies. Now Viren has written the strange and wonderful “To Name the Bigger Lie,” a memoir that includes this awful tale. Dr. Whiles (a pseudonym) became more and more unhinged during Viren’s years studying with him — or did he? Perhaps his escalating eccentricity was all in aid of discomfiting his students and forcing them to think more independently, more critically.
